Today we have had quite a lazy day. We got up late and lazily walked into town for breakfast closer to midday than breakfast time. For breakfast Liam had fried noodles with an egg on the top and Chelsea had a mushroom omelette weirdly with garlic break with it. After our unusual breakfast we then decided to walk to the next cove on, Pantai Tengah. We had read that the beach is as beautiful but quieter than where we are and that it was in walking distance to us. Along the Pentai Tengah coast there are several upmarket resorts. The beach has soft white sand and the beach is a lot quieter. We walked along the whole cove paddling in the sea and decided to find a shaded spot and spend the afternoon. On Pantai Tengah all the sunbeds are for hotel guests only and there were no trees to sit under so we walked to the next cove on the beach. On the way as we were walking Chelsea felt something like jelly between her toes and when she looked down it was a huge jellyfish that stung one of her toes. It didn't hurt, it was just a bit tingly but that is the second one we have seen marooned on the beach. We have read that there are a lot on Langkawi but that they are not particularly harmful. We then scrambled over a rocky outcrop and walked along the next beach.
We found a lovely beach bar to sit at and had a drink. Chelsea had a fresh mango shake and Liam had a beer and we sat and read a guide to Malaysia that we found at the bar. We headed back to Cenang beach and sat under a tree in the shade for the afternoon. We swam in the sea (a litttle bit scared that jellyfish might attack us) and sat in the sun and read our books until we realised it was tea time and headed back to get showered. The afternoon flew by, we just walked on the beach and relaxed in the sun.
Our busy schedule for the evening was to find somewhere to eat and watch the sunset on the beach at a bar. We ate at a cheap place we found, Liam had a chickpea masala curry and a naan bread and Chelsea had some tandoori chicken and a naan bread. It was a really nice meal and was cheap, the best we have had so far in Langkawi. We will be going back for a breakfast roti.
We then wandered onto the beach and found a bar called Babylon. It is a really laid back affair with half the place tables and chairs and half the place small tables and beach matts where you sit on the sand and drink your beer. We sat at the front so we had a good view of the sunset with our beers and enjoyed the view. The beach is still busy until the sun goes down and people lay out in the sun and swim right up until it goes dark. There was live music on, a man singing and playing guitar and with the view and the music it was super chilled out. When the sun went down they light candles on the tables and a fire so we sat on a beach mat and had a few more beers until we were so chilled out we were horizontal and then decided to have a walk back.
We walked back down the tiny road to our guest house and had a beer at the bar before going to bed. We are coming round to Langkawi more. We don't like the overpriced food or the many western resteraunts there are (probably because we can't afford them on our budget) but we the beach and the sea is gorgeous. Off the coast you can see loads of smaller islands that jut out with white sand beaches and lush green trees. The beer is cheap as it is duty free and it is all worth it to sit on the beach with a cold beer at sunset and just admire the view. We plan to visit a few of the other islands on a boat so we are looking forward to that. Apart from that we just plan to lay around and relax so over the next five days this blog could become very boring (unless we get another motorbike)... Sorry readers.
